learn more about pest control - FAQ

Here are the answers to some of the common questions our clients ask. Can’t see your question here? Do not hesitate to give us a call.

  • What is involved in a general pest treatment?

Generally, when people ask for pest treatment, they are after general pest control to keep their home free of common pests such as spiders & cockroaches.

Typically, the pest controller will treat the following areas:

    • Exterior of the building and any outdoor entertainment areas
    • Any outbuildings, play equipment, fences, gardens
    • Roof void
    • Interior of the house
  • What pests are covered?

We usually treat the most common pests like spiders & cockroaches with the standard pest spray.  If you have sighted any other problems such as ants, earwigs, clothes or pantry moths, carpet moths or any other pests, please make the Pest Controller aware, so he can make sure these are treated.

Carpet moths (also known as carpet beetles) and clothes/pantry moths require different treatments to be able to get rid of them effectively.

We also carry out termite inspections & treatments and can provide quotations for termite treatments when the inspection is done.

If specialised pest treatment is required for certain pests or a significant infestation of a particular problem, an additional charge may apply on top of the standard treatment.  The pest controller will discuss this with you.

  • What about specific pest problems?

Some pests require specialised treatment – i.e. termites, fleas, bed bugs, mosquitos and rodents.

These treatments can either be stand-alone or combined with a general pest control treatment.

  • Does combining the treatments save money?

By combining different pest control services, you can save money. If the pest controller is at your property to carry out numerous pest treatments/inspections, this will be cheaper than having them carried out at separate times.

If you need a termite inspection & also a Spider spray, these can be carried out together at a discounted price.

Please speak to our Pest Controller about any specific pest combination needs you may have.

  • How long does the pest control treatment last?

Depending on infestation, a pest control treatment will typically last around six months. However, your home can remain pest free for longer; it depends on the area.

Most residential clients have annual pest control treatments to keep things under control.

  • What preparation do I need for the pest control booking?

We typically ask that all people and pets are away from the premises whilst the pest control is carried out for 2-4 hours, depending on what is being done. We request that all pet dishes are washed and refilled after treatment.

The following hints can help to prepare:

    • Vacuum before the pest control treatment (not straight after) to give the spray the best chance to work afterwards.
    • Have the floor surfaces clear where possible.
    • Don’t leave any dishes/items on the kitchen countertop (or if you do, please cover them to keep any food/dishes safe from sprays).
    • No need to move furniture. We will move what is necessary for the spray.
    • We will overturn any outside chairs/equipment to ensure that any spiders or others hiding underneath are sprayed.
  • How can I prevent pests from reappearing too soon?

Most pests enter from outside the building, so make an effort to restrict entry points:

    • Ensure to have screen protection on doors & windows.
    • Fill any crackers around doors, windows & pipework.
    • If you are susceptible to rodents entering the roof or subfloor, block potential entry points with suitable rodent roof material.
    • Keep the perimeter of the home clear of stored rubbish.
    • If you need to store goods in sealed plastic boxes off the ground (pests love cardboard boxes on the floor!)
    • Do not leave pet food out.
    • Try to prevent leaving dirty dishes, spilled food & food waste lying around.
    • Store food in sealed plastic containers where possible.
    • Ensure there are no leaks from dripping taps, pipework or gutters to create moisture (termites love moisture).
    • Eliminate pools of standing water (potential breeding ground for mosquitos).
    • Regularly vacuum around and under furniture.
  • Are the chemical products safe around family & pets?

Pest controllers are professional. Before carrying out any treatment, they will speak to you about any concerns.  The products will be suitable to use around your family and pets.  Generally, we ask that people and pets are away from the property for 2-4 hours whilst spraying is done and for some time after to be safe, but then it is safe to return.

However, there is a mild odour, less than old-fashioned pest control products.  The smell will disappear within a day, and airing out the house after treatment can help.

  • Do you also do commercial pest control?

We offer both residential and commercial pest control treatments.  Although annual treatments are preferred for most of our residential clients, commercial premises often need more regular pest control treatment.

In particular, hospitality businesses require regular monthly or quarterly servicing to meet food standard requirements.  We offer Pest Registers to our commercial clients, so everything is documented for food safety or other business record requirements.
